From my 5-star Amazon book review: Gardens Are for Growing by Chelsea Tornetto surprised me. I thought the story would focus on the basics of a garden and it started out that way with a father and daughter planting seeds. But this book elevated the story, went much further than a simple garden primer. This is a book about family, about generations, about growing up—that was the surprise. This touching story shows a father growing old and his “little girl” leaving, seasons changing, and finally coming back again, this time with her own baby. Of course, they have to go to the garden. The illustrations by Hsulynn Pang have a lovely, old-fashioned, Americana quality, especially the one filled with fruits of the harvest, pumpkins, apples, pears, sunflowers.
