Children’s Book Scavenger Hunt: Stop #4

Welcome to the Christian Children’s Book Scavenger Hunt! If you are just joining us, please begin at Lisa Bergren's website to collect the clues in order, so you’ll be in the running to win one of three sets of books and a children’s Kindle Fire! The hunt runs from 9/13 at noon Mountain time until 9/15 at midnight Mountain time. This contest is open to international entrants.

I was inspired to write God’s Protection Covers Me because of the concern I feel as a mother and grandmother. I’m a worrier! But I longed to feel calmer. Looking to God for strength, knowing that He protects us, heart and soul and spirit, gave me comfort. Often, writing helps me work through my feelings. The comparison of an umbrella keeping the rain off and a roof overhead seemed to me to be the perfect symbol to explain to a child (and to myself) how God’s protection works. The soothing text reassured me, and I’m hoping that’s what it does for you.

Five Favorite Bible Verses
That Convey God’s Loving Protection

Children love feeling safe, whether it’s the comfort of Daddy’s lap, reading with Mommy in the rocking chair, or hiding under a tent made of blankets. The shelters in God’s Protection Covers Me show how animal homes are like God’s protection. The animals have a roof over their heads, are hidden safe underground, or blend in with their habitat. It's easy to think about ways we are physically protected. Clothing shields us from the weather. Baby gates guard stairways. Car seats are sturdy and secure. With that comparison in mind, use my book to remind your children of all the ways God keeps them safe. We are informed of that many times in the Bible. God desires for us to feel safe and secure. Following are five of my favorite Scripture verses related to God’s unfailing love and protection.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31: 6 (NIV)
The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10 (NIV)

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Psalm 32:7 (NIV)
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91: 1-2 (NIV)

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:6, 7 (NIV)

Think Like a Scientist (my son in law teaches 6th grade science), Sarah and the Frog (my granddaughter loves frogs and one of the cutest pictures I have of her, she’s holding a frog) and Goldfish Are Boring ( my grandson has a goldfish in his room).
